How can I get more money towards assisted living for my Mom?
My Mom receives a pension of $2,300/mo, in category- not qualifying for state aid @ nursing home, not enough money for asst living? help! She is 93 and legally blind but doesn't qualify for state aid because her pension is too much a month.
Not qualified for Massachusetts Medicaid? There must be money missing somewhere on the Medicaid application. Check the math or find the money. If the last five years show money missing, find out where it went and get it back.
I think you need to actually make the application for Medicaid, just be completely honest with them, and have your mom's conditions & needs met, they will send out medically trained people who will confirm that she does need full-time care. In our state they try to keep people in their home as long as possible, but once the cost of in-home care exceeds the cost of facility care, they will need to go into a facility. But the Medicaid will "coordinate" the pension income with the Medicaid, and any VA contribution. Medicare on the other hand pays nothing.
I agree, have you actually asked Medicaid? It is my understanding that what will happen is that she will get to keep a certain small amount to herself and the rest of her pension needs to be directed to either Medicaid or the nursing home.
