Has anyone had to arrange for the transfer of car giving in another state?

Elder has relatives living in another state that can be more supportive of the care and well being of the elder. Elder required 24 hour care and is receiving live in care currently.

We had to move my folks here after Mom ended up in the hospital. They had always paid the ambulance service for "something", but it cut our transfer bill to 100$ for a 100 mile trip from Pa to MD. From hospital to a rehab near our house. I called our family dr ( a geri specialst) and he took my folks on with no problem.. look into that. The rehab set Mom up with cardiologist I wanted.. no problem there either. I got new caregivers for Dad with a local agency.. worked out great. It can be done.. just check things out in advance if you can. Call your Dr first and see if he can help. It's been a year now, mom out of rehab and Dad doing well. Not perfect, but perfectly doable!

If this is Medicaid, find out if the other state has a long waiting list. Medicare and Medicaid rules vary from state to state, and it can turn into a real nightmare if you just up and go. Transport by ambulance is hugely expensive and not covered. Find a new MD can be difficult, many will not take Medicaid. Get all your ducks in a row.
