Losing one's hearing and eye sight [macular degeneration] both of these conditions makes it very hard to communicate with one's parents.

People meeting my parents for the first time think they both have major memory issues but my parents are both very sharp.... it's because they aren't hearing correctly. Someone will ask Mom something and she will start talking about something totally unrelated but I understand why she did that, example she will hear *cat* when someone ask about a *car*.

Depression should certainly be included.

that must be one hard degree to obtain. i could say that much with a stern frown.
whatever.
theyre digestive systems slow to a crawl and their diet needs modified to accomode it. white chicken and rice are two of the most easily digested foods and of course fruit and vegetables.
diseased organs often fail to support the nutritional and o2 needs of the brain, then the brain fails in its functions resulting in eventual death. ( dementia )
near the end of life muscle wasting results in mobility instability too often resulting in falls and broken bones . if the elder isnt rehabilitated back to their feet they may lie in bed and further waste away or die of lung congestion. ( pneumonia )
