How can I keep a minimum of $2000 a month (to satisfy Medicaid in FL) in guardianship account, when Mom's ALF is $3000 a month?

I have just been appointed the guardian of my mother by a Florida Probate Court, and I will be setting up a guardianhip checking account to pay her bills every month. My mom is living in the dementia unit of an assisted living facility and will need to go on Medicaid before the end of the year. I want to know how do I go about keeping only a $2000.00 minimum in this account, when her ALF care is more than $3000.00 a month? Right now we are paying for her care with what little money she has and her name is on the waiting list for Medicaid. Any pointers and info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

While my Dad was waiting to be approved for Medicaid and we were paying his facility fee out of his money, we didn't have to maintain that $2000 limit, but as I understood from the Eldercare Law Office's financial person, once he was approved, we had to stick to him having no more than $2000 in assets at any one time. They can come check randomly, so what I was advised to do was to pay all his own bills out of the checking account where his social security check is deposited into. Now my Mom's SS check also transfers into that credit union account, except it goes into savings AND their medicare supplement insurance is taken out of that account....so I just must remember, on payday, to go into that account, pay all the bills and then if there is more than $2000, I transfer it out and into Mom's POA checking account. Seems to be OK with them, since half of the cost of the medicare supplement is for her share of insurance and about $600 of the extra money is her own SS income. If anyone thinks I am doing it wrong, let me know, but that's how the law office told me to handle it here in Arizona.

I agree with pamsegman In our state you can't have more than 1,500.00 at any one time. Might want to recheck that.

it may be to late to hide or transfer funds/assets/money.
Moving, transferring funds should of been done before she was placed into a assisted living facility .Now the only thing she can do is hope and pray.Medcaid goes back 5 yrs.She can gift upto so much I think. What ever funds you spend of her's you are the feller Medicaid will be going after asking where it all went. You need to talk with a attorney to setup a trust.

Medicaid does not allow MORE than $2000 TOTAL. It's not 2000 a month. It's a 2000 maximum and no more than that. It can be any amount less than 2000.
