Is there a per mile compensation for transportation and errands for parents?

I have tried to find out if there is a set amount per mile for running errands, taking my dad to appointments. I would be on the road for 5 hours just for driving to take him to his VA appointments. I live 2 hours from him one way. One month, I put over 1300 miles on my car just running errands, shopping, appointments, cleaning, etc.

I am not looking at this as income. Just reimbursement for mileage. The only thing I have found anywhere was 4 years ago at 19 cents per mile. I cannot continually pay for the gas which averages about $25 to $30 for gas per trip. There have been several occasions where I made the trip 3 to 5 times a week. It adds up. I left my job because of the needs of my parents. Their needs were more important than my job, so we have only 1 income.

As I mentioned, I am not looking for income, just some kind of reimbursement. Not for my time, but for mileage, wear and tear on my vehicle.

Check with your accountant or lawyer. The amount you can deduct from your own taxes for your own medical is probably different than what you can be reimbursed for providing those services for a parent. In my case, I'm the conservator, so my reimbursements must be approved by a judge since mom is incompetent.

I'm going to charge mileage and have started a spreadsheet to keep up with it. I may have to report it, but I don't think so.There won't be any taxes because it's a reimbursement, not income. I'm spending so much of my time dealing with mom, realtors, appraisers, lawyers, doctors, and shopping errands. I'm not going to spend any more of our money. My husband doesn't spend our money on his mom and I have to stop spending ours so we'll have some left for our retirement.

It's whatever you two agree to. For IRS guidelines, there are different rates for business, medical, and shopping mileage. Of course if he declares the deduction, you must also declare the income. I wouldn't bother complicating my tax return over this.
