My grandparent is terminally ill. Is there a law to protect my job until I'm done taking care of my grandparent?

Need to leave my job temporarily to take care of grandparent. Is there a law to protect me and my job for a couple of weeks or months so I do not lose the position I am in or get fired,

Yes,you can ask for FMLA leave but grandparents are not included in the law, just spouse, children and parent. Your company, if it is very employee oriented, might consider it for you though, especially if you are the only relative. You will need to complete paperwork as will your grandparent's doctor to verify his/her condition.

Ask Human Relations about Family Leave Act and if you don't qualify for whatever reason, ask if they can accommodate you where it's possible you may have to work 1 day a week for 4 hours if you're a part time associate (My company pulled this with 1 of my co-workers)

They don't have to allow you because it's a grandparent and not a parent or child... I got denied because it was my grandma, but to accommodate me, they dropped me down to 1 day a week and then my grandma went into Hospice and because we had 2 aids (1 from Hospice and 1 privately hired) I was able to go to work regularly.

It's a shitty situation but you might be able to benefit from getting your grandparent on an at home Hospice program since they are terminally ill. honestly it's stressful being the primary caretaker for a grandparent when they're at that point where they're considered terminal, but at home Hospice can be great if you get all the right people.

Ask for an FMLA leave. If you work for a large company, they have to allow you time off under the Family Medical Leave Act. If there are fewer than 50 employees where you work, FMLA does not apply.
