I'm unable to work because my Mom's a 24/7 job. Is there help for me so I can pay my bills and continue to care for her at home?

I want to continue to take care of my mother at home but she needs 24/7 care. I had to quit my job and now I am unable to pay my mortgage, other costs of living I do not want to put her in a home so I can go back to work and pay my bills, feeling extremely depressed do not know where to turn.

Gmaandsam, had I known this, I might be able to keep the utilities on.the laws in grants must vary state by state as I was never told of the opportunity to be paid other than not paying rent or utilities because Mom paid all of that with her Social Security. Now that she's gone along with the Social Security check yes I have a home but no way to keep the utilities on. I am disabled but have not been approved for aid Financial)

In-Home Support Services(thru county) pays me to care for my grandma. i found this program thru my grandma's doctor when i mentioned i needed "help" caring for her. a week later a social worker contacted us and did an in home assessment.

two years later grandma's doctor says she needs 24hr "supervision" because she is a harm to herself which will increase my hours and my pay.

although taking care of my grandma IS a 24/7 job this program pays me a total of 73.5hrs a month but the worker said the county will increase my hours up to 188hrs a month.

there are programs out there.... good luck to you

Jeanne told you what to do. Also contact your local Area Agency on Aging. Google it with your city and county names.

Good luck. The work you do is God's work, even though not well-paid or respected by outsiders.

Have you looked into various kinds of financial aid for your mother? One place to start would be to call your county Social Services and ask for a needs assessment. Generally those workers are very knowledgeable not only about what the county offers but also of other services. They may advise you to apply for Medicaid for Mom. Medicaid covers nursing homes, but they also have a program to help folks in their own homes.

You will need to be there when the assessment is made.

Family needs to help, but if not, social security can place her; if her benefits don't elevate to that status they garnish whatever they can. I believe the government will take whatever isn't tied down for 5 years before. Good Luck!

Sounds like you are in a fix with no way out. If you can't pay your mortgage neither of you will have anywhere to live. Can your mother afford going to a nursing home or could she afford help at home so that you could work again? Would she qualify for medicaid? I hope someone else knows of where you could get money to pay your bills because I don't know.
