I've been a caregiver for 1 year, went in the hospital and when I returned I was locked out by members of her church. How?

whom I called upon to watch over her until I was well enough to return, it was about 10 days. They charged me with elder abuse, the sheriff told them to put my personal belongings outside and I can't go and get them. How can they just locked me out and break into my room?

I don't think you can do much about it, if the sheriff is involved. I guess you'll have to wait to hear the charges and proceed from there. Hopefully you won't have to get a lawyer involved. Good luck.

Unfortunately, I think it would be necessary to hear the other side of the story, obviously there is more to this if the sheriff was involved. I hope you have recovered well from your hospital stay.

Did they give any explanation of why they were charging with elder abuse? The first thing that went through my mind is that sometimes elders, particularly those with dementia, are bad to make up things. Sometimes they make things up and even start to believe the tales themselves. Do you think this might have happened? (If something like this happened to me, I would know right away that this had happened, because my mother can make up some tales.)
