How can I get Dad to pee in the toilet and not on the floor?

My Dad has had the exact same problem for about a year. I think he ends up peeing on the floor for two reasons: 1) the toilet is in the corner of the bathroom, with the shower on one side and a cabinet in front; I don't think he likes the enclosed space, and 2) he always thinks "people" are working on the toilet, the pipes are broken, etc. My Mom finally got him to sit down to pee, which works fine, but its very hard for him to get up. So, we purchased a 3-in-1 potty for him, which has side rails he can push himself up with. Unfortunately....every time he sat down to use it, he ended up squirting all over the floor! He says the hole is too small...So, now its used as a shower chair, and it works great that way. But to get back to what you were asking -- do you have a walk-in shower? Both of Dad's doctors (GP and Neuro) have told him its okay to stand in the shower stall and pee. Sometimes he will and sometimes he won't (he says peeing in the shower is unsanitary!) We've even on occasion put a bucket in the shower. Try this if you have a walk-in shower. Or at this point I'd say to try to have him stand in the tub or next to the tub and pee in it if he can! Its better than having to wash the floor all the time. Dad takes off both pants and underwear when he goes, so he doesn't do much dribbling. This might also help. Good luck!

Thank you for your suggestions. I've already tried a raised seat, he just urinates on the seat. He uses depends but still pees on the floor.

sorry, I re-read your question and I see you have already tried the sitting suggestion. My next suggestion is Depends for Men.

Have him sit to pee, a lot of elderly men or overweight men do this. It is not necessary to stand.

Often they cannot see past their belly. A strategically placed mirror might help, and a raised seat gets him closer to the target. A strong urine smell in his room may indicate kidney failure, a discussion with the MD is recommended. Betadine (iodine scrub) in the laundry will neutralize the ammonia odor better than Clorox, and won't fade colors.
