Bemomiller Asked July 2013

I am just stumped.

Mom won't eat unless its the occasional ice cream cup. She does not eat or drink enough to nourish a bird. I just took her blood pressure and it was 80/45, it always runs low. Yet she seem fine this time around. Normally when when she is dehydrated she is lethargic, moody, weak etc. I just don't get it.

She is 87 diagnosed with SDAT, which she has been for years. Congestive heart failure, renal failure, dehydration, failure to thrive and the list goes on.
Normally when she is having a bout of dehydration she is really weak, even more so confused, can barely walk even with walker. But for the past day or so she has been unusually perky despite everything.

How old is your Mom and what, if any, diagnoses does she have?

It is common at the end of life to withdraw from eating. Let her enjoy the ice cream!

You may want to call in Hospice.
