Does anyone know of financial help to get a walk in tub?

My 96 year old mom gets sponge baths for several years. A bath would be appreciated. My mom cannot get into a tub and is in a wheel chair part of the time. She lives in my home with me. I would love to get a walk in tub so that she could once again feel really really clean and relax her body. Just cannot afford the cost. Was wishing there was some sort of grant or low interest load to get one in. She would Appreciate being able to once again take a bath.

I put in a walk-in tub for my husband. Only after I did so did I mention it to his Elderly Waiver case worker. She said if I had asked in advance they may have covered part of the cost! It never hurts to ask any possible source of help.

And I don't regret buying the tub one minute! My husband thoroughly enjoyed it. I enjoy it. And now my mother gets to use it the one weekend a month she is with me.

Any home improvements that are necessary for the care of a patient are tax deductions under medical. For someone in a wheelchair, hand rails, ramps, widening of doorways, etc. are all included. Any remodels to make a shower or tub accessible would be deductible. If she can be safely transferred, they sell bath seats that lower the patient into a standard tub. You might want to check those out.

if you can get a prescription from your mom's doctor, you may be able to write it off your taxes:

Check with the Area on Aging in your area, they have a one time grant of up to $2,000 for that sort of thing if you qualify. I do not know all of the details, but just google "area on aging".
