How do you get your proud parents used to the idea of wearing "Depends"?

so there are no more accidents in a public place?

Oh, they've been using Depends for years now. I've been changing their diapers daily for quite a while now. Gotten used to it. It's no big deal. Next question. Best. :-) Wayne

The top two adult briefs are: Abena Abri-Form x-Plus and Tranquility slimlines and The All-Through-The-Nights (ATNs) Try these instead of "Depends" because the depends are mostly low-level protection and are too cheaply made. If you wish to make any adult Brief more Absorbent, try using a booster pad or "doubler". Dignity makes some AWESOME ones! Trust me...from first-hand experience here....

Silhouettes are softer..but they tear easy. I don't recommend them. If check with Area of Aging and Disabilities in your area, its a gov. funded program that you might be able to receive supplies such as these. They did for me and mom according to her income level she was able to get these for free along with bed pads, wipes, gloves and other supplies of this nature. Check into it..it's worth it.

My mom was having accidents in her pants when she moved in with me..she was so embarassed about having to change her pants a couple of times a day. So bought the poise pads at first and then gradually brought in the depends. I said lets just try these out and see if they work. After about a week she never questioned her regular pants she just asked for the depends. I think it was more of a relief to her not to have to worry about having an accident. But I agree...never call them pull ups or diapers, they are undergarments.

my mom had a stroke last year and was in rehab for 2 months. During that time I looked after my 94 year old father who has alzheimer's and lives at home. He was constantly having accidents and hiding his underwear. I would find them because of the smell. I ended up removing all of his underwear out of the house and told him that most folks that live to his age have these issues and they now make "undergarments" to provide better personal hygeine and avoid any embarrassing situations. It took a little bit for him to get used to it, but he is at the point where I just make the reasonable and safe decisions and explain it so he can understand. It may help to tell them the doctor feels that this is something we need to start doing right away.
Also, I find that it helps to show elderly parents/people the utmost respect about things like this, so I dont call them diapers or pull ups, I call them undergarments or underwear

This is a tough one. I tried to get my mother to wear them, but she said they were uncomfortable and refuses to ever put another on. I wonder if the Silhouettes might be more comfortable. They are mighty pricey, though.

I would also like to read how people worked around this problem.

It would seem if someone was proud, they would do anything to avoid accidents in public. Get a small package of the pull ups and allow you parents to try them at home.

Hopefully you are using waterproof pads for your furniture and bedding, accidents don't just happen in public.

In a gentle way I would stress the positives of using this protection, rather than the accident side of being in public. I know it isn't easy. Best of luck!
