Anyone familiar with normal pressure hydrocephalus and how one can tell the difference between this and dementia?

Oh and depending on age a shunt can be inserted to assist with fluid build up. Do to other medical issues and age, Mother was not a candidate for the shunt.

Mother has NPH. Tests by neurosurgeon confirmed. They do a spinal drain and if there is immediate improvement in walking and balance they do additional tests. Early on there is an issue with gait in dragging feet, there may be falls and pressure in head due to weather changes or for no reason.

Mother is sharp as a tack just really slowed down when she has these pressure issues.

Do an online ssearch for NPH..lots of good info and a support group.

Good luck!
