Can my Dad's primary care doctor charge him for supposed visits in the nursing home?
My Dad's primary care doctor supposedly comes in around 5-6 a.m. in the nursing but we never see him but still get billed. I think this is a farce to get money from my Dad. Is this normal? if not should we call him on it?
A doctor making daily calls to the nursing home is likely going to bill for the time. Surely the staff at the home can verify whether or not he is making these stops. You may want to question the necessity of daily visits. That is pretty rare. Generally a nursing home has a doctor on call and a Physician's Assistant who stops at least weekly and checks on her patients. Daily doctor visits would seem a bit excessive unless there is a special need. I'd first verify with the NH staff about whether the doctor actual visits daily, and I'd also ask the doctor why there is a need for him to check in on your dad every day when he's already in a skilled nursing facility.
