My father has dementia and failed his prins test. He is in physical therapy, can they send him home?

suffering from stage 4 bladder cancer which has matastisized and spread...along with his already existing emphasima. He was admitted to a nursing home/rehab facility. He needs to stay there..but does not want to. If his doctor tests him at the nursing home and for some reason he passes this prins test...is there a possibility that they can send him back home. He lives alone an hr from me.

Awe, feel badly for both you and your Dad; he is suffering as it is with cancer and emphazema and the comforts of home are important to him; especially now. I don't know what you mean by a prins test? I'm not familiar with it.

If he goes home, does he qualify for hospice care with the advanced cancer? Also, will he be able to hire someone to care for him as the condition worsens? You live an hour from him; so it is difficult for you to monitor how he is doing on a daily basis.

The good thing about staying at the NH is that if his conditions becomes worse quickly, they can keep him comfortable and hospice can be called in. I know this is going to be a difficult decision. Thoughts and prayers are with you. Take care.
