Should the washer be sanitized after washing soiled bedclothes and linens?

To avoid transmitting things like staph or e-coli (assuming they might be in soiled bedclothes and linens from the elder's sickroom) should the washer drum be sprayed with a disinfectant or even put through a rinse cycle with bleach before doing family laundry? Would airing out the inside of the machine do as well?

My mother had several rounds of C-Diff (very contagious) and had plenty of soiled cloths and linens daily. I had a sanitize cycle on my machine and used it daily. At night I would run the machine on that cycle with nothing in it, thinking that may help for my cloths. It must have worked since I never got C-Diff or any other infections.

Try Borax. It's a natural cleaning agent that has many different purposes and works really well. Also, it is fairly inexpensive. I would also wash the soiled bedclothes and linens in borax as well. They will definitely be clean after that!
