What are Adult Day Care centers like? What stages in aging would a senior have the most benefit from attending?

templemartin,

adult day cares are targeted for families in need of respite care for the caregiver, those that cant stay home alone that often and also for those that are isolated. they need to socialize..

an adult at any stage can benefit.. they have field trips, exercise, games, movies, dancing at some. they also have educational speeches and whatnot.. if your loved one is going to be there and needs meds, you supply them, but there is an LPN or higher there that will make sure they take it. they will also monitor blood pressure and things if needed.

my mom prefers to do puzzles during morning movie time, so she can do that.. you arent forced to do anything you dont want to.. but given the encouragement to try new things in a safe enviroment.

if you call your local daycare.. set up an appt to drop by and see what its like.. its actually encouraged.

in most places, they also arrange to pick your loved one up like they do for school in the a.m lol

you(if you want to) are also able to attend functions with your loved one. i have chaperoned a few field trips myself.

good luck and go take a look at a few!! some that are run by the city are based on income also.. so no out this world fees!!
