On the first day of Christmas....

my mother gave to me
A partridge in a pear tree

On the second day of Christmas my mother gave to me
A partridge in a pear tree (because she forgot she gave me one yesterday)

On the third day of Christmas, my mother gave to me
Another stinking partridge in a pear tree.

It is crazy celebrating the holidays with my addled mother. She is out of her routine and can't keep anything straight. I am getting random panicked questions about forgetting to get so and so a gift. She has no idea what day it is or which gathering we are attending.

The only good thing is that she keeps asking me in panic if she forgot my birthday (she did, it was in Oct) and when I tell her "no, you didn't miss it, it is coming up", she replies by telling me to send myself a $30 check for my birthday. I am up $270 so far :-)

Sometimes the holidays disturb routine which is very important - I agreed with cwillie keep your sense of humour at all costs - notice we both put a 'u' in humour as nothing is funny on your own & sharing it is the BEST WAY!

I love your 'poem'

I'm glad you can find the humour in it all :)
