I am having to deal with my wife who has Alzheimer's and late stage ovarian cancer that seems to be, probably due to the physical and mental stress of the cancer, accelerating her cognitive decline. I have also heard something about "chemo brain". Just worried about her being able to bounce back from the chemo, or at age 78 her Alzheimer's will just keep advancing at a faster rate due to the cancer stress. At age 79, and her 2 daughters not around, I am burning out fast.
Far easier to care for my mother with end stage cancer. Dementia? Harder by about10X. No support system at the hospitals or communities. It's mostly the "it s-cks to be you" level of care even though it took over 6 months to get the neurologist appointment. I will not schedule another neurologist appointment. It's too stressful and there is nothing that can be done. We all know it, why bother to think anything useful will come out of another exam? Unless the person's condition has dramatically worsened. I rely on Zoom caregiving support meetings. Very helpful and I don't feel so alone.
Alzheimers and dementia tends to create difficult behavioral issues that cancer itself does not. AD and dementia is always harder to deal with than any other issue that affects an elder.
