Looking for advice on weight loss.

My wife is 5ft 2' and 170lbs. For health reasons, she needs to lose weight. I would like to know from someone who has real life experience with weightloss.

You don't mention how old your wife is and what health problems she has. Changing her diet may help but getting up and moving really helps. I am not big on having the sleeve done. Its a tool, not a cure. If she wants to loose this weight, then I would ask my doctor for a nutritionist. If she is a diabetic, there are fruits and vegetables that are a no no because their natural sugars will affect her blood sugar levels. And you can't be bugging her all the time. The opposite effect happens, she will eat more.

It depends on how picky she is about food and how addicted to sugar and flour she is. Check out 'Bright Line Eating'.

Why are you the one reaching out for advice and not your wife? If she was wanting to lose some weight I would think that it would be her reaching out and not you. Or is it just you that's wanting her to lose some weight?
Plus this really isn't a caregiving issue from what you've written and this is a forum for caregivers.

Is your wife seeking advice on weight loss? If not, it might not be received well if unsolicited. You might suggest you both start to focus on health and fitness. Consult with your doctor and a nutritionist. Also, if able start an exercise plan. That’s what I did, though I created my own meal plans. I was able to lose almost a hundred pounds in about a year.

Can you tell us more abou the health reasons?

It is her choice to seek ways for weight loss. Barriatric surgery, GLPs or diet, which can be the hardest to maintain. She is obese and I am sure she knows about it. You cannot force her to lose weight if she chooses not to

I would sit down with her doctor and have a serious conversation about this. I would then ask for a referral to a geriatric weight loss specialist. We have a doctor within a half hour of us that specializes in weight loss and nutrition. She does not take insurance. You need someone that can take your wife's health challenges and medicines into consideration.

Does your wife have impairment? Are you also her caregiver?

See if your insurance company will cover visits with a nutritionist or weight loss expert.
