I'm a caregiver for a woman with dementia and sundowners

what are some good distractions i can use when she says she wants to go home, when

If she sundowns regularly, then it's a good strategy to start things in motion before it begins: turn lights on before dusk in the areas she will be using; If she can be outside for a walk or even wheelchair ride, do it; take her out on an errand or even a drive; start a simple craft, activity (like folding towels or sorting socks) or a game, etc.

With dementia, it’s good to agree and then distract.

Okay, we will leave tomorrow to go home. Let’s have dinner now and do the dishes. We will need to get started early.

Me too. I would love to see your home. Let’s finish this puzzle before we go.

Look up Teepa Snow videos on YouTube and you can learn a great deal about how to positively communicate with those who have dementia.

Your objective is not to have her never ask again, it is more to help her move beyond that thought in that moment, to release her stress and all in a positive manner.

Really, there isn't much. There's the usual, and while giving toddlers the television is likely not a good thing, if she finds it distracting there is no reason not to try television, music and such. Basically, when things get stuck in that compulsive circle there is sometimes not much to be done about it other than speaking with the doctor about anti-anxiety meds or anti-depressant meds which may SOMETIMES help. I would start with discussion with the doc who knows his/her patient best.
