Can those with loved ones on Quetiapine for agitation/aggression/hallucinations with dementia tell me what dosage they found to be effective?

Our primary care doctor started my husband on quetiapine 25mg at bedtime two months ago and has not increased dosage, even though I let him know the medication at this level is having no effect. What dosages/increases did your loved one take and at what dosage did you see positive results? Thank you.

We have 2 prescriptions for Quetiapine that's taken at bed time. We started out with a 50mg extended release dose, then had to add a fast acting dose to get through the night. The ER dose has stayed at 50mg, and the regular (fast) one dosage has been slowly going up 25mg at a time to keep up with the progression of the dementia without causing excess drowsiness during the day. After 3 years of this we are up to 100mg at bedtime of the regular (fast) Quetiapine.

To be quite honest the answer to this question would be irrelevant; I say that as a retired RN. What works for one patient will not work for another, and many factors are in the equation. There is general condition, individual response to medication, bodily height, weight, other medications, to name a few. Overall this makes response to any medication, for any one of us, as individual as our own fingerprint.

I sure wish you luck in finding right dose here. As some doctors will admit, it is anything but an exact science.
