Not answering calls or messages. Is this common?

My mom won’t answer calls or return messages from old friends or relatives except from me. I don’t understand why. When I ask her about it, she just shrugs. Is this part of dementia progression?

She Probably forgot how to use the phone and Hits redial when you call her .

She may have short-term memory impairment so she may not remember who called or how to figure out their numbers. It's difficult for people with short-term memory loss to make conversation with people who don't know or understand anything about dementia.

Yes. Either that or she feels you are too pesty with calls. Why not ask her which it is.

Your moms brain is now permanently broken and I can only guess that she doesn't even know who these people are anymore that are calling her. Be grateful that she still remembers you, as that may leave some day as well.
And this sounds like it's definitely related to her dementia, but as the saying goes...if you've seen one person with dementia, you've only seen one person with dementia. There is no one size fits all.
