Medications for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

My sister is in the later stages of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, and she is currently in hospice. Which medications are commonly assigned for this stage?

It will depend on if your sister is having any pain or any other issues that may require medications, as hospice doesn't just randomly prescribe medications unless they are truly needed.
The hospice nurse can answer any questions you may have about this.

My dad (92, dementia and possible Parkinson’s) is on Seroquel daily. Also he has Haldol as needed for intense agitation.

(And recently he was hallucinating, but w/o testing for a UTI, the hospice nurse prescribed antibiotics. After he slept for 20 hours, his hallucinations stopped.)

Recently he was given meds for secretions, as his swallowing has slowed at night.

May I ask what your sister’s symptoms are? It took a few meds to determine what would help my dad.

In Hospice she will get morphine for pain and breathing and medication for anxiety. All life sustaining drugs will be stopped. If her Parkinsons meds will help with her comfort, they will be kept.
