Can anyone please tell me about the personal preference program for Medicaid in New Jersey as a caregiver?

What are the member advocates job and what are the caseworker jobs? Who are they there for? Any help would be very appreciated.

I am in NJ. Your best bet is to call your County Social Service Dept and make an appt with a Medicaid caseworker. These programs depend a lot on income. You cannot have too much in assets. Everyones situation is different.

AI Overview

The New Jersey Personal Preference Program (PPP) is a Medicaid program that allows eligible individuals to manage their own Personal Care Assistant (PCA) services, rather than relying on a traditional home health agency. It provides a monthly budget to hire, train, and schedule caregivers, including family members, friends, or neighbors. This program empowers individuals to have more control over their care and supports their independence.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Eligibility:
The PPP is available to individuals who qualify for NJ FamilyCare (Medicaid) Plan A and require Personal Care Assistant (PCA) services due to a disability or old age.
Purpose:
The program's main goal is to empower individuals by allowing them to make decisions about their care, such as hiring and managing caregivers.
How it works:
A participant receives a monthly budget based on the authorized hours of PCA services and the current reimbursement rate (approximately $31 to $47 per hour in 2025). They can then use this budget to hire, train, and schedule caregivers, including family members, friends, or neighbors.
Benefits:
The PPP offers greater independence, choice, and control over care, allowing individuals to tailor services to their specific needs and preferences. It also promotes a sense of dignity and independence.
Flexibility:
The PPP allows for a variety of options, such as hiring caregivers, purchasing assistive technology, or making home modifications to support independent living.
