Stages of dementia?

How are they affecting you? I think my father is going into a later stage. He is losing the ability to get to the bathroom in time. He keeps opening and closing his mouth and curling his tongue. He is also falling. I dont know if he needs different medication or if there is anything?

Speak with His primary care Physician about your concerns .

The opening and closing mouth and curling of the tongue may be disease process but may also be due to any psychotropic medications--called tardive dyskinesia.
Usually the incontinence, yes, is late middle to end stage.
As to end stage, given how they try to keep us alive and walking pill-boxes, it can go on a long time.
Do discuss all of this with the doc.
Good luck.

OH MY GOODNESS! You have described my daddy! this is ALZ! He will need 24 hr care and my experience is I placed my daddy in a group home! They were the best. It was personal care and I took care of the staff. I visited with them and took them special treats, treated them to dinner and gift cards for caring for my daddy. Hopefully your POA has been enacted and you have the power to make these decisions! Putting him on hospice is your next job they will assist with getting him the things he needs - a hospital bed, bedside commode, incontinence items, shower aide, medication. Remember this important thing Hospice does not mean death it equals help. A prayer has been said for you and your situation! ((hugs))
