Need a bed with scale for my mother.

Wanting to know if there’s a program or Medicare/Medi-cal covers. Needing for my elderly mother with dementia and under currently a home dialysis. We have a hospital bed but the weighing for dialysis treatment is needing to be more accurate. We currently use a hoyer with an after market scale but it’s always off the weight before. Any suggestions is appreciated. We try to get treatment under the 3-3.5 hour time so we can continue with our daily jobs. It’s me and 3 siblings that are needing some help.

Are you doing Peritoneal dialysis? If so, this is a last ditch effort. Even if it isn't Peritoneal why are you putting a elderly woman with Dementia thru this. Dialysis is hard on a person. If her kidneys are no longer working, I think I would just get Hospice in and let her go peacefully. Really, I am sorry if this sounds cruel but sometimes we just have to let go. If she has medical POA or a living will andvit says no extreme measures, this is an extreme measure.

I had 2 friends on Peritoneal dialysis and it was very hard on them. Both chose Hospice and passed at 63. The other was going to dialysis every week and just could not do it anymore. He passed at 70 while on Hospice.

I would think if this is a medical necessity that the doctor could order the bed that is needed or a Hoyer with a more accurate scale and I would think that it would be covered since it is a doctors' ordered medical need.
I would discuss this with the doctor as well as the dialysis center.

Have you talked to your social worker from the dialysis center? To be honest, I think it’s pretty unlikely a bed scale would be covered but I don’t know for sure. Her nurse should also be able to help or perhaps help you make a better estimate.

I did a search and came across something called a lift scale, is that what you’re using? If so, I’m not sure why it wouldn’t be accurate whenever your mom is weighed. I may not be understanding everything, sorry.

I don’t have any idea but wanted to wish you good luck with this.
