One year update.

It has been almost one year since I moved my mom to memory care and I am so blessed to be able to say my mom is doing really well there! I cannot explain how different this Christmas was compared with the previous 3. I am so grateful that nightmare is over. (Her living with her husband who was not much better off than her and then living alone for the last year). My sister and I work together to make sure one of us visits her every day. I just wanted to let people know there is hope your loved one can be "happy" in memory care. I try not to think about what happens when she runs out of money in 3 years. At least not yet. I am just savoring the moment. It is as good as I could have hoped it would be.

Thank you for this update. I'm sure there are some here who needed to hear your story.

My husband is also doing well in memory care. He has friends there who keep him alert and as interested as possible, and the caregivers are kind and caring. I am there almost every day and am grateful for their help. At this stage of dementia - going into stage 7 - I couldn't ask for a better situation.

What an awesome update! I'm so happy for all of you. It's nurishing for others on this forum to read this, since many struggle with this decision. Thank you! [ I'm assuming the MC she is at accepts Medicaid. If this is not the case, then you need to come back to this forum for more essential guidance. ] Wishing you a peaceful and joyful New Year!

Good to hear that things are going well!

This forum opened my eyes to the possibility of Memory Care for my mother. It saved my sanity. ◡̈

Great update! I agree with your philosophy to savor the moment. I try to think 1 day at a time, 1 week at a time
(of course reasonably plan for the future, but not worry about it too much, who knows what will or will not happen....)

Thanks so much for this positive update. We so seldom get told when things are better or somewhat solved, and it's so great to hear.
