At 97, if she can afford it, I'd leave mom home and bring in help. A change of environment to a SNF at this point in her life may be just too much to bear.

Unless you can find and afford 24 hr. home care, it would be better to place her in a facility where she will have round-the-clock care and be safe. Less expensive, too! If she’s mentally sharp, she may enjoy the activities they offer in a facility. I’d visit a few conveniently located facilities in your area and ask to speak with the social worker.
