How do I protect blankets from over night copious bed wetting?

I understand how to protect mattresses underneath patient, but how do I protect blankets etc. over patient? I'm OK with washing sheets daily, but I would prefer not to have to wash blankets daily.

Thanks for your participation and update; extra info helps so much.
I still think a large (oversize) bedsheet that is waterproof is the answer. He could toss and turn and do about anything and it wouldn't get to the top covers.
It's curious to me that this is a gentleman who is still well and working in fact, but who comes home and forgets that the depends need to be changed before bed? That's not a match. I am assuming this incontinence may be due to prostate OR or radiation or some such?
You are correct that nighttime brief for incontinence hold a good deal more urine and do experiment on your own with actual product and cups of water.
Wishing you good luck. If the wet blankets are the worst of this I think it may be an easy fix overall. Hope you will update us as to what works.

He is not bedridden. He wears disposable briefs like Depends. He works an evening shift and comes at comes home at 12:30 after I am asleep. . I think I have to make sure he also changes his disposable briefs right before bed. Are overnight incontinence briefs different from regular Depends type disposables? I'll check out Purwick> Thank you for your help.

Buy a waterproof duvet cover which is intended for blankets.

I would use a soft sort of material waterproof sheeting placed between top sheet and blankets. Attach at corners with good safety pin. This material is usually synthetic, and you will find it on amazon as "waterproof" bedsheet or "waterproof mattress cover. They aren't expensive and while the come with the border to make into fitted bed cover, this border can be easily cut off leaving the very lightweight material.
Do know that Amazon carried "waterproof flat sheets" for about 19.00. That will work in place of regular top sheet, and you will want to get KING SIZE even if just a full or Queen bed. That will prevent it getting removed easily from top blankets.

It's tricky. And I wish you good luck.

Thank you for the information. It was just what I have been looking for. I'll try it.

Is this patient wearing overnight incontinence briefs? Is this person bedridden? If not are you taking them to the bathroom right before bedtime?

Do they go to bed fairly early? Limit liquids before bedtime.

Is an external catheter an option (like Purwick)?
