I have no money and can't take care of my mom with dementia anymore.

According to her reply on a Discussion post, her Mom may have turned over her house to her 3 children. Did Mom keep her name on the deed? If this is within the 5 year look back have you found out if the deed can be reversed? Does not Mom have money of her own? Did you quit a job to care for her?

If your mother doesn’t qualify for Medicaid at this time, is it because she has too much money? That money can be spent down to get her to the Medicaid eligibility level.

One way to spend down, in all honesty, is finding a lawyer who works specifically with elder law and Medicaid. They know the ins and outs of the process.

It’s not cheap, but again, it’s a way to spend down her money if she has too much.

We really need more information here to properly advise. The short answer, without much other information, is to call APS and have them help. We need more information though. Have you to talked to a long term Medicaid specialist? There are ways to get approved for LTC Medicaid even though she might not qualify for community Medicaid. What is your living arrangement? Do you live with her? Do you not work because you take care of her? What is your income source and mother's income source? I ask because you say you have no money, does that mean you can't afford to live on your own, or you can't afford to pay for mom's care?

From your previous post it appears you are your moms guardian and have had legal council for the guardianship. Did you speak with a certified elder care attorney regarding your mom’s ability to qualify for Medicaid?
