PKELLIHER, welcome to the forum. Prices would vary from area to area. The large metro area then to be more expensive, but closer for medical care. You may find one facility that is less expensive, but you need to consider what comes with that monthly price tag.
Example, if a facility charges $8k per month, that monthly rent could include housekeeping and linen service (changing, washing the bedding/towels). The rent could include 3 meals a day in the restaurant style main dining room. The rent could include activities, handyman personnel, cable service, heat, telephone. Nurses on duty 24 hours.
Now if one finds a place for $5k per month. The items I listed above may be an added cost which could cost more when added to the $5k rent.
At one time my Dad had caregivers via an Agency at home, thus 3-shifts per day. That was back a few years ago and he was paying $20k per month, yes per month. The Agency was licensed, insured, and bonded. Plus provided Workman's Comp in case one of the caregivers got hurt on the job. Dad had to send a check each month to the Agency. The Agency did the paychecks thus deducted the required payroll taxes. Again, hourly rates for home caregivers can vary from area to area.
