If person is sagging in a sit-to-stand ie not have the strength to stand on their legs, it is unsafe to use. They can fall.
A hoist machine is required.
Is being non-ambulant expected to be tempory? Are there goals to weight bear again?
If so, a Physiotherapist can make a plan towards that goal. Eg Bed & chair exercises to build core & leg strength before re-introducing a sit-to-stand safely with trained aides/carers.
If a person can not support themselves SAFELY on a Sit to Stand using a sling then it is time to transition to a Hoyer Lift. Much safer for both you and the person you are lifting and it is easy to use. There is a little learning curve but it is not difficult. And the options for the sling are varied and can make caregiving easier.
In my opinion you need a full lift, sit to stand devices are designed to be exactly that and a person who can not weight bear for even a few seconds is not safe attempting to use one.
Is there a concern or safety issue using an electric sit-to-stand with sling?
No, I have not seen an electric STS with a seat.
Try looking for pictures of *Sara Stedy* if you have not seen one (other brands exist too).
But, the Sara is a non-mechanical sit-to-stand. It's lighter & easier to use but the person must be able to weigh bear on legs & stand themself up. The 2 'flaps' can become a ledge seat, so the person can sit while manouvering to chair/commode/bed etc.
Thanks for your reply. This person can not bear weight on legs or pull up with her shoulders. The non electric STS all have a sling that easily slides up on a person and can cause injuy when trying to transfer.
