Financial resources for care.

I think mom should be in nursing home and my mom says she wants to go to one as she can’t care for herself. She cannot afford a care center and cannot get Medicaid due to having property in her name still. Even if she sells it now, Medicaid has a look back period so she can’t get aid.

Are there any alternatives??

Use the money from the sale of her assets to pay for her care. Simple and easy!

As said, if prperty is Moms home its an exempt asset. If she has other property and its sold, it does not effect the Medicaid look back. Once sold, you place the proceeds into an account and use it for Moms care. This is part of the spend-down that Medicaid allows. When almost gone, then u apply for Medicaid.

Sell the property and spend it on her care. This is what the look back is about. All $ goes to her care. Keep account of even her personal expenses. Depending on her monthly cost of living in a facility, calculate to when she gets down to3 to 6 months and apply for Medicaid. When shopping for a nursing home, choose one that accepts Medicaid. Do not worry about if there is a long wait list. Private pay gets in ASAP. While Medicaid is pending, she will go to the top of the list.

Wills, welcome.

Is the property in question mom's home or not?

Her home is a non-countable asset for Medicaid.
If she owns property besides her home, it should be sold and the proceeds used to fund her care.

That's why people save. To be able to take care of themselves, right?
