What meds are available and can be used safely to calm my wife down from some crying/anxiety and staying awake for two days/nights?

My wife is ok when she sleeps through the night but when she gets into her repetitive questions and comments, the crying and sleeplessness kicks in. A med to calm her down and help her fall asleep would be ideal. She currently use Trazadone HCL (125-150 mg) which doesn't always help. Would increasing the dosage be safe and help her?

Truly this is a question requiring the expertise of your own doctor as to meds appropriate for the patient he knows. I sure wish you luck in finding an answer. Do know that medications and medication cocktails are difficult to find, to monitor, and they don't always keep working with the same efficacy over time.

Good luck.

This is a question for her actual doctor, not non-doctors on an anonymous global forum where there is no accountability. Often, a medication that works great for one person doesn't work at all for another. Therefore, ask her doctor.

Have you spoken to her doctor?

How long has she been on Trazadone?

This med is an antidepressant, not a sleep aid: I would be cautious in changing the dose with medical advice.

It’s both, but yes he needs to ask her doctor.

There may be someone who has had this situation and can make suggestions. However, since you have been caring for your wife for 9 years hopefully you have a doctor you could call to ask about increasing or changing her meds. If not, it’s time to find a geriatric primary or psychiatrist.
Home Health is a service through part B of her original Medicare plan. Your wife might qualify for home health services for the homebound. They could interact with her doctor and be a great help to you in managing her care.
