My mother (middle stage of Alzheimer's) falls asleep minutes after sitting down in the car, at home. Any other caregivers seeing this?

I used to fall asleep all the time when travelling in the outback - a hot dry enviroment & my asthma was not well controlled...

*lack of O2* Is my conclusion years later..

But. Will it improve her life to stay awake?

I don't mean to be mean or dismissive. Just, if her brain needs the rest. Let it be I suppose.

In general, older people tend to become tired easily.

My mom would always be worn out after one trip to the doctor’s office. She would come home exhausted and take a nap.

Is she the driver of the car she's falling asleep in? If so, put a stop to that ASAP.

But yep, it's pretty normal.

I think she is the passenger... HOPEFULLY...

Just dropping off to sleep and soundly, sounds good to me :)

wish I could do that...

if her breathing is not labored, and she looks peaceful... take those moments..

I kept thinking something was wrong with mom... I woke her up when she was asleep on the couch... MOM mom... mom... she started laughing... and went right back to sleep... she was dreaming... I disturbed her fun dream...

It’s more good than bad. If they’re awake, there’s more chance of anger, confusion, wandering, etc. etc. etc. Count your blessings.

Yes, my mom sleeps very late most mornings. Unless there is someplace we have to go, I let her. More "me time."

Yes, it is quite common with dementia for people to sleep a lot more.
