How can I get compensated for being a caregiver?

freqflyer Mar 2023
Bryan2023, welcome to the forum. Please note that the vast majority of family caregivers do not get paid.... unless your Mother can pay you from her own savings. If yes, then you would need to draw up a Caregiver's contract. Your Mom would need to sign this contract, only if she understands the contract.

If your Mother cannot pay from her own funds, then call your State Medicaid office [Medicaid is different from Medicare]. If your Mother can be accepted by Medicaid, depending on the programs within your State [each State is different], then you could be paid. But note, don't be surprised if the pay is minimum wage for a limited number of hours each week. Medicaid is funded by us taxpayers.

See the article on this website How to Get Paid to Be a Caregiver for Parents. It mentions a few avenues including a paid leave insurance program offered by some States, including Virginia.

An ironclad contract would be ideal
