How do I get paid to stay home and care for my husband?

My husband was diagnosed with a malignant oligodendroglioma 2 years ago. He has mobility issues with extensive weakness on his right side. I have to help him get around, shower, get dressed, eat, etc..

Artimage26, welcome to the forum. Please note that the vast majority of family caregivers do not get paid. You can check with your State Medicaid office, but only a handful of States will pay a spouse to be a caregiver. Your husband would need to qualify for Medicaid [different from Medicare].

Don't be surprised, if you do quality for payment, that the payment is minimum wage for a limited hours a week. Example, if you are cooking, you are also cooking for yourself.... if you are doing laundry, you are also doing laundry for yourself, etc..

If he is on Medicaid, there may be a few hours a week available to be paid. If he is a veteran, talk to VA about Aid & Attendance benefits. Home caregivers generally are unpaid or paid by family.
