Does an out of state mailing address impact Medicare and/or Medicaid eligibility/benefits?

My mother in-law recently moved to the Memory Care portion of an assisted living facility. The facility is in Virginia and my spouse and I live in Maryland. We would like to officially have her mail sent to our address in Maryland. Several agencies need to be informed (Social Security, Medicare, her VA retirement program administrator, etc.). If we have her mail sent to our address in Maryland, will this affect her current Medicare benefits? In a couple years, she will have exhausted all of her available cash and we will help her apply for Medicaid. Will an out of state mailing address for her affect her Medicaid benefits? My wife has POA for her mom. Thanks.

If she has standard Medicare, they don't care but, an Advantage plan needs to fully understand it is a MAILING address only, as coverage is typically county specific.

If you can do all of this online, I highly recommend doing it that way. You can ensure that her physical address is actually her physical address and her mailing address is your address, without depending on someone else understanding.

Social security didn't care, my dad got auto deposits, so no changes to anything but his address, all done online.

My dad had NV drivers license, AZ mailing address and UT physical address and never had any problems. Go figure!

Call your county office of aged and disabilities, call Medicare , VA county office, (if I’m not mistaken, I used my address as her mailing address … )..
