Do I have to give mom's social security number to assisted living?

Me, I would ask why they need her SS#. The SS# is only suppose to be used for government use. Employers need it to tax ur wages. I see no reason why the AL needs it. Medicare and health insurance policies no longer use it for identification. I no longer put it on Dr forms, etc and have not been asked to provide it.

It's like a rental agreement for an apartment. They need to know you can pay.

They will ask for all identification. There is no reason not to give them this information.
