How to handle the guilt?

My grandma is suffering from Alzheimer's for past years. Recently, she was shouting more and wanted to leave house, but her legs are not good and the doctor doesn't let her move a lot. We took her outside and she wanted to sit in the middle of the road. We asked the doctor and the doctor prescribed some pills to calm her. After the pills, she was calm and was not shouting, but her situation developed worse. Now she is in her last days, doesn't drink water, can't move and doesn't know what happens around her. I think maybe because of the pills her situation sped up. I even saw in my dream that pills make Alzheimer's worse and I was crying that we killed her. What should I do? We just tried to ease her pain. Now she is dying and everybody at home feel terrible.

Unfortunately with Alzheimer's and any dementia this is the progression. The pills that were prescribed to calm her can effect some differently and with some it takes a.while to get the correct dose and the correct medication in some cases.
Sleeping a lot, my Husband in the last year of his life was sleeping about 20 to 23 hours a day, is common. The very fact that her heart is beating, her lungs are working and other bodily functions are working takes a lot of energy. So she sleeps more.
Keep her comfortable. Let her know you love her. Thank her for all she has given you. She will always be with you in heart and soul.
You did nothing to speed up the decline she is experiencing.
I wish you and her peace.

Thank you so much. It gave me a bit of relief.

I would let the doctor know that she had a change after she started taking the meds. The same meds prescribed for anxiety affect everyone differently so maybe they need adjusting by the doc (a different dosage or a different pill) which is very common when starting a new medication. This happens to the elderly all the time. All drastic changes should be reported to her doctor when it coincides with her being given a new therapy, such as medication.

Thank you for your answer. We are not giving the pills anymore. She is sleeping all day.
