In NC, when patient accepted for Medicaid now has approx $2,700 in checking, how long do they have to get it down to $2,000?

In north carolina when patient accepted for Medicad now has approx $2,700 in checking becauseof credit on part B supplement & increase in social security & within a week her acct will go up again with social security being puy into checking, how long do I have to get balance back down below $2,000?

She is not a patient, she will be a resident because her NH will be considered her residence.

Good question. I wouldn't think the SS would count because that is suppose to be used for her care. Its going to come into her bank acct every month unless u set up for the NH to become payee. Until then, you will have to pay the NH the amount of her SS every month, deducting whatever Medicaid allows for Personal needs. You may need to spend down that $700. Has your Mom been excepted because if so, then you only have a certain number of days to get her placed. In my State you have 90days to apply, spend down, get all the info needed and get the person placed.

If you have already applied, call the caseworker working on Moms application and run this by them.
