How do I go about getting an exemption if I have a felony background?

JoAnn29 Sep 2021
Hard to work in healthcare with a conviction especially if drug related. If in healthcare at the time if conviction, that is grounds for firing and getting your certifications revoked. Thats CNAs, LPNs and RNs. So not sure how you could get an exemption. The felony would have to be written off your record.

I do feel for you. You probably have changed your life around.

Agencies routinely do criminal background checks. Felonies will always disqualify a person from working for the agency. I don’t what you could get exempted. I have hired for personal help in my home. I background check everyone at both state and federal level. I do not hire anyone with convictions of any kind including DUI charges or misdemeanor drug charges.

From her profile:

"CAring loving had a job for 6 years until pandimic came and company closed now its hard because i had a felony on my back ground"

Are you referring to in home care?    I honestly don't think an agency would hire someone with a felony conviction, but it may also depend on the nature of the felony.

As a caregiver, I wouldn't want anyone with felonious experience ior conviction n my home, or in  my parents' home.   I think a lot of people would feel the same way.
