How to get mom's health insurance company to recognize me as POA?

Long story short...I have Healthcare P.O.A. I sent all forms to the doctor and health insurance company. Health insurance company will not talk to me or I spend hours on the phone to get matters taken care of. I've sent them the paperwork. If you've experienced this, what did you do?

Love4ever,

I am both financial and health care POA for my Aunt.

I haven't had any issues doing any of her business.

Is there a financial POA? If so, you need to work in tandem.
If not, you need to work on getting POA for your LO's finances!

Best wishes!!

I had both financial and health POAs. I had no problems in dealing with insurance companies. Just sent them copies of the POA. I think Alva is correct, medical POA is for medical decisions only.
I was able to talk to billing departments concerning payments due.

I do sympathize with you. My husband is almost completely deaf. When I make calls for him I am told they need to talk to him. I explain he is almost deaf so he cannot answer a bunch of questions. I tell him just to tell them its OK to talk to me. Don't you know I can hear them trying to ask him questions.

You often need to be not Health POA to deal with insurance but FINANCIAL POA. I had no problems dealing with my brother's insurance company as his financial POA. They are not interested in health POA as they do not discuss health issues with you, but rather payment. I received all bills for my brother and paid them as his financial POA; that included the Insurance bills
What did the Insurance company tell you when you called them?

Honestly...cried. And I don't cry easily. My father had United Healthcare. I filled out a mountain of paperwork and it was never enough. They insisted he get on the phone and confirm who he was then give permission for them to talk to me....every freaking time I had to call them. The problem was he couldn't remember the answers to the questions they asked. The company reps were sympathetic to my situation but could not budge on their policy.

One very comical time the man on the phone told me to coach my father as to what to say then call back. So I call my father (mind you I am at work during all of this and really don't have the time for this foolishness) and tell him to get a pencil to write down what I was going to tell him. He disappears from the phone for a good 5 minutes then gets back on. I say "Are you ready to write this down?" He responds ...."I need to get a pencil". This is what I was dealing with.

Wow. My brother had United Health Care and my experience was exactly opposite of yours. I was able to get all billings and payment notices sent to me. I was put on his account as the person to communicate with. I wonder if it has to do with how well written the financial POA is? They were very good to me, and their payment was wonderful.
As far as calls to them, they don't have to write anything. You are on the computer. They know exactly who spoke to you and when and what was said, as far as I could ascertain.
