Need assistance in helping client get oxygen, any suggestions?

I have a client that has no income or insurance and was just recently diagnosed with COPD and told she needs to be on oxygen. She has no income or insurance and her SSDI is in the appeals process how can she get financial assistance in paying for oxygen?

If she has no money how are you being paid?

You don't need to have SSDisabilty to get Medicaid. She can apply based on income. I will assume here that your client is under 65? Because if not, she can get Medicare and if 62 or older Social Security. If a widow she can get SS at 60. She can also apply for SSI which is a Supplimental insurance.

SSD takes a while to get. Its not unusual to be turned down and then you appeal. Lawyers who handle SSD are not allowed to take money upfront. They are paid when the person is excepted from the retro money received.

Ask the physician to intercede with the DME company on her behalf until her SSDI and medicaid kicks in. The doctor can assign her a social worker to assist with her needs.
A lot of charity is given behind the scenes. If no success contact Catholic Charities or Lutheran Social Services in your area.

Presumably she was told by a doctor that she needs oxygen.  That doctor would prescribe the oxygen, e-mail the script to a DME company that supplies oxygen, which would then contact the client.

The procedure used to be that a night test was given to determine night SAT rates, and depending on that, oxygen might be prescribed only for nighttime use.    More testing at the pulmonary doctor's office could determine a need for daytime use, or 24/7 use.

W/no income or insurance, how is she living, and where?  How are you being paid?

If she has no income why isn’t she on Medicaid? She needs to apply ASAP.
