Can Mom get her meds from the assisted living facility upon her departure? They administer them from their dispensary.
Mom is considering leaving and I would think they would be required to give her all of her medications in their possession upon departure. Has anyone had any trouble with this?
Whenever my mother has unused pills at her Memory Care ALF, they call me, her POA, to ask me what I'd like to do with them. So........in my mother's case, her pills belong to HER or to me. If I were you, I'd call your mother's place directly to have that question answered. We on the forum can only tell you our experiences, which may differ from what you find yourself.
These medications belong to the facility, are dispensed from their cooperating pharmacy, often individually packaged, and will be credited to the senior if he or she is leaving some behind. But no, it is not common for the senior to take them home. You will have to coordinate with the Doctor of the Senior and the Pharmacy the senior wishes to go to to get new prescriptions filled. The pills do not belong to the senior in my experience unless the senior filled the prescriptions, paid for it, and handed it to the ALF to dispense (that happens).
Mom pays out of pocket for her scripts using the same pharmacy she had before she went to the AL, so I was thinking they are her pills, the AL didn't pay for them. If they keep them, what will they do with them?
Thank you. I'm pretty sure they should give them to her - the pharmacy sends an invoice to Mom & she pays them directly but the AL keeps the meds in their dispensary.
