Dad, 81 with Lewy Body, Covid. Any experience with this?

My elderly dad has been hospitalized for 6 days with sepsis, Covid and acute respiratory failure. He was moved to a progressive level of care called Intermediate Care for high oxygen flow. He has Lewy Body Dementia with stage 3 congestive heart failure, a-fib, high blood pressure, diabetes and stage 3 kidney failure. The nursing staff is extremely busy. However, they do return my calls. They have had to add restraints due to his constant removal of IVs and oxygen. I am mentally preparing myself for various outcomes. Has anyone experienced something similar with so many serious underlying conditions? I feel like a kernel of popcorn...popping all day and night.

Oh, Sunny; I'm so sorry for this turn of events!

When my mom went on hospice for the last three days of her life, I basically spent every free minute outside of her NH room (and sometimes in it, sitting on the floor) wailing and venting here. I would never have gotten through that without the kind and generous folks here.

Feel free to yell if it helps. ((((((hugs))))))))

I have not been through what you are going through but my heart goes out to you. I feel like I am one step away from the same situation and I can only imagine how difficult this must be. I hope you have good support around you and best wishes to you and your dad.

Poor Dad! Poor you!

Does dad have any advanced directives about his wishes for end-of-life care?

Have you considered that hospice might be a possibility? Are they giving him meds to keep him sedated, rather than using physical restraints?

I just looked up your other posts and realize that you are also dealing with your mom who won't get a cognitive evaluation although she seems to be having difficulties in that area.

((((((hugs))))))))); you have too full a plate for any one person right now! Please be gentle with yourself. Have you talked to the hospital chaplain? You might find some comfort and wisdom from someone who can talk to you about the non-medical side of things.

Yes. My dad has a DNR. Do too just called and said he is very ill. He is contacting Hospice care and recommends comfort medications.
Thank you for your generous support.
