If your loved one is deceased and you filed single, will that mess up the process for a stimulus check?

Congratulations IRS has accepted your payment info was my response.

Here is what I found. The 3rd article says that deceased people are receiving in error checks but should not receive payment. If received, those payments need to be returned.

So to your question, if your spouse died in 2019 or before, they are not entitled to a check. Stimulus checks are for those people that the Virus has effected by losing jobs, paying more out of pocket, etc. It is suppose to go back into the economy.

From what I read, if ur spouse died in 2019, you should have filed married and showing the spouse in deceased. You may have to amend your return.

"Just select the filing status on the Name & Address screen in your 1040.com return, then provide your spouse's name, SSN and date of death. And remember, for the year your spouse died, use the married filing joint filing status. Then for two years after, you can use the qualifying widow(er) filing status."
