Are there any options to get meds covered by insurance when refill meds just arrived by mail and are now missing?

My Mom was diagnosed with dementia this past Fall. Since then we have had to lock up her meds. I go to my Mom & Dad's house twice a week to fill her pill box. Dad gives Mom her mail when it comes in, even the mail that contains her med refills. Today, her pill bottle refill has gone missing, assume results of her dementia. Dad now knows he can't give her, her med refills anymore. Are there any options to get another 90 day refill paid by insurance? All I know of is GoodRx, and that gives a discount. The med is Eliquis, blood thinner.

I think that is an expensive med. Do you really think your mom took the med and disposed of it or was the medication listed on the mailed invoice? If you can’t find the meds listed on the invoice you can call your local pharmacy and ask for advice. They may be able to get your physician to write you a 30 day supply until you get a firm answer from the mail or pharmacy. Also if you have a medical power of attorney, You could ask for the delivery address to be changed to your address so they’ll be no chance of loss or miss placement.

ask mom,,, period.. what happened to that bag we gave you yesterday? Do you know where it went?

Chances are she will have no memory of ever seeing the package, let alone what happened to it. If this were my mom "someone came in and took it."

can you ask the pharmacy? Perhaps they may give you a one time refill? Say they were dropped and spilled when dad got them out of the mail box, or they went missing, the truth? any way you can cut us a break this month? or portion?

I lost a filled prescription before and the insurance company covered the replacement immediately through the pharmacy as I didn’t have time to wait for mail order replacement. The pharmacy actually called the insurance company while I waited. Good luck.

You can ask the doctor if he has any samples or if he will contact the drug rep for some. Also the pharmacy may sell you a few while you try to find samples.
Ask the doctor if he can change treatment to a diff blood thinner that insurance will cover. Sometimes a diff script will work.
I think you should have the meds if not all the mail transferred. Dad was showing signs of dementia himself if not denial about mom’s condition. Well I just checked your profile and dad has dementia also? Do you have POA for them both?

Something like this is crazy making but helps us know it is time to make significant changes.
Personally with something as lethal as blood thinners I would have to do a COMPLETE search of the home. First I would call the mail order to make sure they were mailed. Dad may think he gave them to mom because he always gives her her mail but didn’t. What does she normally do with her mail? Think about that and look for other mail he may have given her. I’m sorry this has happened. Let us know how you handle this. We learn from one another.
Hugs to you all. Take extreme care of yourself. We are all stressed these days.

Call the prescribing physician. He may be will to represcribe. However, the drug plan may not pay for this replacement. You can try the insurance company but they are usually hesitant to replace a missing prescription.
