Can anyone share their experience with prostate surgery?

My husband is undergoing surgery as I post this. They are doing a full removal with the robotic method. His prostate was enlarged and there was evidence of cancer throughout it yet his Gleason score is not bad. I guess what I am fearing most after hearing from the surgeon is an indefinite period of incontinence. He is 70 and in good shape otherwise.

Every man I know that had that surgery ended with permanent impotence. The incontinence was temporary.
sadly, everyone of those men were very angry because the surgeon led them to believe that impotence would be temporary if at all. Everyone of the men I know felt the surgeon ended their lives, not save it.

one fellow in particular was to upset and angry...and he never got over it. Said if he had been told the truth he would have gone with radiation first.

My husband already had issues with impotence. I know this may not improve. We ruled out radiation because there was evidence of cancer throughout the prostrate that so much radiation would have been required that there might have been adverse longer lasting side effects. I guess I was just wondering if anyone could discuss the incontinence issues after some time.

My husband has not undergone surgery but all the procedures they try before they get to that point. With the procedures it was the local he was given that caused him to be incontinent for just a few days. TG he was willing to use Depends.
I would think full removal would improve him being able to go. Interested in the replies u get. This my 73 yr old will need to go this way.
